Soft cover, 25cm x 19cm, 100 glossy pages, 300 colour photographs. The book covers thimbles relating to Southern Africa, both past and present. Thimbles have been made from materials ranging from ivory to Zulu beadwork, porcelain and sterling silver and included are 50 different local thimble makers and artists who have created uniquely Southern African thimbles. A whole chapter is devoted to thimbles and sewing items commemorating the Anglo Boer War (1899 1902) as well as sewing tools made by the Prisoners of War.
